Mayor Leonard Krog has officially announced his candidacy for re-election in the upcoming municipal election on October 17, 2026.

First elected as Mayor of Nanaimo in October 2018, Leonard has guided City Council with a steady, respectful hand through two terms of significant growth. Driven by the philosophy of "Commitments made, Commitments kept," his vision for Nanaimo focuses on smart management, strong advocacy, and practical results.

Bringing Real Results to Our Growing City

As Nanaimo continues to expand, Leonard remains focused on the essentials that keep our community thriving:

  • Investing in Infrastructure: Under his leadership, the City has made major upgrades to water systems, wastewater management, local roads, and our beloved parks and recreation facilities to support a growing population.

  • Fair Representation: Ensuring every corner of the city—from south to north, downtown to Hammond Bay, and the University District to Mount Benson—benefits from municipal investments.

  • Strong Healthcare Advocacy: Standing firm in his unwavering support for critical improvements to our local hospital campus.

  • Tackling Social Challenges: Leading the charge among BC municipal leaders by demanding more provincial and federal support for mental health and addiction, while strongly advocating for "dry housing" as a crucial step in recovery programs.

"I am ready, willing, and able to continue to lead a new Council for the next four years, to keep improving our City, and to contribute to the positive development of our region."
— Mayor Leonard Krog
